What is the Great Loop anyway?

So what is the Great Loop anyway?

The Great Loop is a continuous waterway that encompasses the eastern part of North America.  It includes the Great Lakes, (where my Pirate Husband is starting), the Canadian Heritage Canals, the inland rivers of the U.S., as well as the Atlantic and Gulf Intracoastal Waterways.  So, basically he will be traveling across the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi and a few other rivers, out the Gulf Coast, around Florida, and up the East Coast back to the Great Lakes.  We're talking about a trip that is over 6,000 miles on a boat that doesn't go faster than 10 knots per hour.

The adventure is to see the eastern portion of the U.S. while trawling along and enjoying the view.  Folks that cruise the Great Loop are not in a hurry; they want to experience Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi" - not just read about it.
